ABOUT BETTY
WHO IS BETTY EMAMIAN?
For the past 15 years, Betty Emamian has served as Board Member and Director of Communications for NYC's annual Nowruz NY Persian Parade.
In her role and with other board members, she has been responsible for making the "Parade" a leading cultural event in New York City, which grew in attendance from under 50,000 to 160,000. Betty has been instrumental in expanding awareness of the organization through grass roots efforts, cold calling campaigns, increased media coverage by NBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily News and private donations and fundraising. For her efforts, the Parade has received a proclamation every year from the Governor of New York and the Mayor of New York City as " The Persian Parade Day". Betty also worked with elected offices in March 2017 to do nowruz messaging and nowruz challenges.
Betty was born and raised in Tehran until the age of 12, after which she attended boarding school in North Wales, UK and upon graduation obtained a BA in Chemistry from Manhattan College & an MBA from Long Island University.
She has traveled across 5 continents and visited over 50 countries, always with an eye toward creating better cultural understandings.

A strong advocate for Women’s Rights, Betty has been a leader and active member of Ellevate, on the steering committee of The Democratic Party's Women Leadership Forum, conference planning committee of Iranian American Women Foundation, The United Nations Women and Women in Foreign Policy Group. She is the first Diversity Officer for The National Sales Network chapter of NY/NJ. She formed the Consortium of Local Iranian Community to unite the diaspora and has promoted Nowruz with members of NY State elected official offices. Each of these organizations has helped her to enhance women's economic security, end violence against women and improve public health. Betty's favorite quote when asked about a common theme for multicultural women is: "We may speak with an accent, but we don't think with accents!"
Philanthropy and Civil Duty have been a common theme in the Emamian family. Her father was the Chief Engineer for the National Iranian Oil Company, her brother founded the British-Iranian Business Association http://www.bibauk.com/ and her late aunt was the famous Iranian actress Forouzan who brought the role of women into Iranian Cinema.
